Feeding Tips
Feeding Times![[ Divider Line ]](../../graphics/bones2_350x10.gif)
There are a couple different schools of
thought on when to feed your dog. Some feel that an adult dog only needs to be
fed once a day, usually in the evening. Although some dogs, especially smaller
dogs, may need to be fed more than once a day. Others feel that self-feeding is
the best method. This method consists of leaving food out all the time and not
having set feeding times. This allows your dog to regulate itself, and
proponents of this method feel he will only eat as much as he needs.
Self-feeding definitely does not work with every dog because not all dogs will
stop eating when they're full, and could become obese.
Whether your dog is self-fed or has set feeding times, he should
always be fed in the same place, and if you have more than one dog they should
each have their own bowl. It is important that your dog always has water
available, because the amount needed is dependent on a variety of factors.
Water is important because it aids in digestion.
In order to avoid obesity, table scraps should be avoided. They may
also contain ingredients that are not suitable for your dog's digestion.
