Where to Find a
Dog?
Newspaper Ads
![[ Divider Line ]](../../graphics/paws22_350x15.gif)
The listings of dogs for sale in the newspaper can
vary widely in terms of quality. Some puppies listed in want ads can be available from
reputable breeders who are selling high quality animals. Yet other ads can be from private
individuals who have unhealthy pups leftover from an unplanned litter. Someone who is
simply selling puppies from an unexpected litter, is less likely to have invested the time
and expense in properly caring for a dog, and is less likely to stand behind their
"product", than is true for a professional who has a reputation to protect.
Certainly there are many good animals being sold from newspaper ads; the real challenge is
that you will need to do your homework to be able to separate the good offerings from the
bad. You should always ask questions about the dog's parents, the dog's health history,
and be sure to obtain its immunization records. Any guarantees or refund policies should
be clearly spelled out in writing, prior to purchase.
