Boy, Am I Ever a Lucky Dog!

[ Divider Line ]

I'm so happy to have found a new home! Things are really taking a turn for the better since the Young Family decided to adopt me a short while ago. I just love little Artie and Nicole; they're such darlings to play with. But before I go off on a tangent, I wanted to tell you a little about myself, and how I came to be here.

[ Rilpey Tells His Story ]First of all, as you may have guessed, I have a multi-cultural ancestry. My mother is a Sheepdog and my father is a Golden Retriever. I grew up in a happy home; but a few months ago, things took a turn for the worse. Our owner had to take a job in another part of the country. Because he was moving into a small apartment, he wasn't able to keep my entire family together. Since I had a tiny little problem with teething, and he claimed that I had done a little bit of damage to some curtains, I was in the proverbial dog house (so-to-speak) with my old owner. So he decided I would have to be left behind (imagine that!), and he proceeded to take me to the local humane society to put me up for adoption. I know it was a heart wrenching decision for him; and honestly, it was pretty darn stressful for me as well!

The shelter was a noisy place because they had an awful lot of other dogs and cats looking for new homes. Unfortunately, it seemed like there weren't as many people coming through to adopt good dogs, like me, as there were dogs and cats waiting for homes. So what happens to all my friends at the shelter that don't get adopted? Rumor has it that the shelter staff waits as long as they can to find homes for my fellow pets, but those that aren't adoptable (and horrible to say, many that are adoptable) are sent to the big pet oasis in the sky. I try not to dwell on this thought very much because it makes me really sad.

But lucky for me, one day the Young Family came along and spent a lot of time meeting a bunch of us. I tried to be on my best behavior and to show them how much I really liked them. I got really upset when they left without me; but then to my surprise, they came back a few days later. And guess what, they picked me to join their family! Such utter joy and excitement!!! But before they took me home, the shelter staff asked them a bunch of questions, and told them they had to take me to the vet, to get some more shots (yuk!) and to get me "fixed". (I didn't even know I was broken.)

But now that I've settled in, I just love my new family and my new home. The kids play with me all the time, and my two parents, Denny and Gail, take me for walks all over the neighborhood. I've got a nice backyard, and a big house to run around in, and most important of all, a loving family that watches over my every need. I couldn't be happier!

Love,
